HCPCS Codes for Walkers and Rollators — E0130 to E0150
Walkers carry more codes than any other mobility category, and two of them are traps.
| Code | Describes |
|---|---|
| E0130 | Walker, rigid (pickup), adjustable or fixed height |
| E0135 | Walker, folding (pickup), adjustable or fixed height |
| E0140 | Walker, with trunk support |
| E0141 | Walker, rigid, wheeled |
| E0143 | Walker, folding, wheeled |
| E0144 | Walker, enclosed, four-sided framed, wheeled with posterior seat |
| E0147 | Walker, heavy duty, multiple braking system, variable wheel resistance |
| E0148 | Walker, heavy duty, without wheels |
| E0149 | Walker, heavy duty, wheeled |
| E0150 | Combination wheeled walker with seat and transport chair, folding |
| E0155 | Wheel attachment, rigid pick-up walker, per pair |
| E0159 | Brake attachment for wheeled walker, replacement only |
The two traps
E0144 is not covered. CMS states the medical necessity for a walker with an enclosed frame has not been established; claims are denied as not reasonable and necessary. The rolled-frame rollator with a posterior seat that looks most "premium" in a catalogue is the worst code to build a reimbursable line around.
E0147 requires a coding review. Only walkers that have received a written coding verification review (CVR) from the PDAC contractor — and appear on the Product Classification List — may be billed as E0147. If it is not on the PCL for that code, the line denies as incorrect coding.
The heavy-duty threshold is 300 pounds
E0148 and E0149 are covered only where the beneficiary weighs more than 300 pounds, on top of meeting the standard criteria. Bill a heavy-duty walker for a 250 lb patient and it denies.
Wheeled means 2, 3, or 4 wheels
A wheeled walker (E0141, E0143, E0149) is one with either 2, 3 or 4 wheels, fixed or adjustable height, with or without glide-type brakes. Hemi-walkers bill as E0130 or E0135 — never as an unlisted code.
A new code to watch
E0150 — the combination wheeled walker with seat and transport chair — was added to the Walkers LCD effective 1 October 2026. If you manufacture a combination unit, this is the code to register against.
Where the rest of the reference lives
This page is the walker slice of our full HCPCS dealer reference. For the adjacent reimbursed category, see crutch codes E0110–E0118. And if you also stock bath-safety lines, read why raised toilet seats are not Medicare-covered — the split that decides which half of your catalogue is an insurance business and which half is private label.
